Leonard Slatkin and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra have been nominated for a GRAMMY award in the Best Orchestral Performance category for their recording of Copland’s Billy the Kid and Grohg. The album is the third volume of Copland’s ballet music recorded by Slatkin and the DSO on the Naxos label. The ever-popular Billy the Kid encapsulates Copland’s nationalist musical style, while Grohg, the composer’s first work in the form, demonstrates his early mastery of sound.
