Leonard Slatkin will conduct the Aspen Chamber Symphony in a concert featuring pianist Inon Barnatan on July 2, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. MT in the Benedict Music Tent. Two Beethoven monuments kick off the season’s first Aspen Chamber Symphony concert, with African-American composer Julia Perry’s A Short Piece for Orchestra opening the program.
“Aspen is very special to me,” Slatkin said. “It’s the place that encouraged me to pursue this path as a conductor.” At the Aspen School in the 1960s, Slatkin conducted his first concerts under the guidance of festival director Walter Susskind.
