  • Slatkin Returns to Detroit

    Leonard once again joins the DSO for three concerts with pianist Garrick Ohlsson. The program, originally planned for spring 2020, comprises three masterpieces: Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, and Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

  • Slatkin Spends Memorable Week in Spokane

    Slatkin’s first visit to Spokane culminated in both a warm welcome from audiences and rave reviews from critics. As Larry Lapidus of the Spokesman-Review averred, “The meticulous clarity with which he conveyed the instructions of the score to the orchestra was a source of wonder.”

  • Memorial Celebration in Honor of Cellist Frederick Zlotkin

    The Violoncello Society of New York has announced a memorial honoring Leonard’s late brother, Fred Zlotkin. The event will take place on Monday, January 30, 4:00 p.m. in Morse Hall at The Juilliard School and is open to all those who wish to attend.

  • Slatkin Returns to Japan to Conduct NHK Orchestra

    November 16, 2022

    Slatkin will lead the NHK Symphony Orchestra’s concerts in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka November 18-27. The first program comprises Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Rodeo. The second program features the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with soloist Ray Chen and two works by Vaughan Williams.

  • International Violin Competition Finalists to Play with Slatkin and Indianapolis Symphony

    After eight days of competition, six musicians have advanced to the final round of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Each violinist will perform a concerto with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Leonard Slatkin.

  • Slatkin Hosts Documentary about Classical Music Critic Sarah Bryan Miller

    Sarah Bryan Miller, who served for more than 20 years as the classical music critic for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, is the subject of a new documentary, The Places Music Has Taken Me: An Unfinished Story of Sarah Bryan Miller. Known as “Bryan” to friends, family, and colleagues, Miller died of cancer in 2020.

  • Frederick Zlotkin, 1947-2022

    With a heavy heart, Leonard Slatkin announces the death of his brother, Frederick Zlotkin, a wonderful father, musician, and friend. Fred served as principal cellist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra for more than 45 years. Recipient of numerous awards, he was a prolific chamber musician, studio player, and recording artist.

  • Slatkin to Conduct New York Philharmonic at Bravo! Vail Music Festival

    Slatkin will conduct two programs with the New York Philharmonic at Bravo! Vail. The first features Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and cellist Zlatomir Fung performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. The second is a Sondheim celebration with soloists Isabel Leonard and Emmett O’Hanlon.

  • New Album Release: Jeff Beal’s Paper Lined Shack

    June 24, 2022

    Today marks the release of The Paper Lined Shack on Supertrain Records. The album features Slatkin conducting the Eastman Philharmonia and soprano Hila Plitmann in Jeff Beal’s song cycle inspired by the diary of Beal’s great-grandmother Della, a widow who raised her family on a ten-acre farm in Idaho.
