Leonard travels to Nashville this week to conduct the Nashville Symphony in a program comprising Copland’s spirited ballet Rodeo; Slatkin’s own composition, Kinah, an elegy to his parents; and Elgar’s emotionally charged Symphony No. 1. Slatkin’s visit marks his first return to Music City in ten years due to a cancellation resulting from the pandemic. He was music advisor of the orchestra for three seasons 2006-2009, leading the inaugural concert in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and the Grammy-winning recording of Joan Tower’s Made in America (2007 Grammy Award for Best Classical Album and Best Orchestral Performance).

“Magnificent works deserve an equally stellar performance. Leonard Slatkin’s leadership of the Nashville Orchestra rises to that expectation. The ensemble delivers a thoughtful and insightful performance of Tower’s works. … Absolutely a worthwhile representation of the best that American art music has to offer.”
