While working on his third book, Musical Chairs: The Changing Landscape of Classical Music in the Twenty-first Century, Leonard Slatkin has written a number of essays about the road to recovery for the orchestra industry, available in the Journal section of this site. In this ongoing series, he has put forth such suggestions as programming concerts for smaller forces, opening up recording archives to keep audiences engaged, and taking advantage of local talent, among other ideas. The Library of Congress has selected the entry “Recovery Edition, Part 1” for inclusion in its digital archive as an important part of its research collection and the historical record surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
